# Import borrowers
## Follow these steps if you would like to bulk import a data file of borrowers only.
You can import a list of borrowers from a CSV file. Go to **CRM \> Borrowers \> Borrower List** and click the **Import Borrower** icon at the top right, next to Create Borrower.
### 1. Prepare your file
1. In the Import Borrower window, click **Download Sample Template**.
2. Replace the sample "John Smith" row with your borrowers. Keep the header row as it is, and remove the John Smith row, or the import may fail.
3. Save the file as a CSV with a name of your choice.
**Rules for the file:**
- Only the fields in the sample template can be imported for borrowers.
- Every row must have a first name, last name and email address. If any are missing, the upload fails.
- Phone numbers can only have 7 digits. A phone number with more digits makes the upload fail.
### 2. Import it
1. Go back to CRM \> Borrowers \> Borrower List and click the Import Borrower icon.
2. Click **Choose File** and pick your CSV.
3. Click the blue **Import Borrowers** button and watch the message that follows.
A green "Borrower data imported successfully" message means it worked. If you get a red error, note the reason, fix your CSV and try again until you see the green message.
### Export your borrower list
In CRM \> Borrowers \> Borrower List, click the "Click to generate as csv" icon to download your borrowers as a CSV file.
